Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing, managing, and reporting on accounting activities across the organization. This candidate should have experience with detailed accounting processes, and auditing, preferably with an Oil and Gas operator. The candidate must have the ability to work independently and meet tight time deadlines, including working evenings and weekends when necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform monthly closing journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Account for revenues to ensure they are correctly calculated, accounted for & distributed following the Joint Operating Agreements (JOAs).
  • Prepares monthly general ledger entries for multiple upstream and midstream entities
  • Prepares analytical review of financial statements (including examination of BS and IS variance analyses)
  • Responsible for proper accounting, reporting, and timely payment of all royalties and severance taxes (Texas).
  • Properly account for and classify all well expenditures and bill them to the respective wells/owners following the JOAs.
  • Properly account for all G&A expenditures.
  • Responsible for coordinating AFE setup, routing & tracking.
  • Perform special projects, reports, and data analysis that requires knowledge of oil and gas accounting.
  • Adheres to established work schedules and attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings.
  • Maintains employee confidence and corporate assets, including intellectual property, by keeping information confidential.
  • Perform ad hoc data analysis
  • Liaise with operations and provide timely research and reporting of capital expenditure and expenses.
  • Perform vendor analysis and provide cost coding support to operations
  • All other duties and tasks as assigned by the direct supervisor or manager.

Qualifications & Skills

The qualifications and skills listed below are representative of those required to successfully completed the essential duties listed above.


Bachelor’s degree in an accounting or related field is preferred.

5+ years of general accounting experience for an oil & gas operator is preferred.

Other Skills

Strong attention to detail.

Ability to analyze large amounts of data and organize into a presentable manner.

Highly motivated and able to self-direct daily work and manage multiple tasks of differing priorities.

Software Skills

Full knowledge of Microsoft Office with strong Excel capabilities.

Experience with Oil and Gas ERP software (BOLO preferred).

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will not have supervisory responsibilities.

Environmental & Physical Requirements

The work environment is primarily in an office setting. May work around machines with moving parts and moving objects. Working closely with others or working alone. Working extended or irregular hours.

The physical requirements of the job are primarily sitting at an office desk using a computer and other office tools but may require the ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, perceive depth, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs.

The equipment used in performing the primary job function include but is not limited to computers and related equipment, calculators, copiers, fax machines, and a telephone.
